Emerge Pennsylvania Announces 2023 Cohort on International Women’s Day

The program, launched in 2016, has trained and supported over 200 Democratic women.

HARRISBURG, PA – Today, Emerge Pennsylvania announced its eighth cohort of women to participate in the organization’s intensive candidate training program which will include 23 women from across the Commonwealth.

Emerge PA is changing the face of politics to create an inclusive democracy by increasing the number of Democratic women in public office with effective state programming that recruits women to run at every level; trains women with cutting-edge tools to run campaigns and win; and connects women with a powerful, national network of alumnae and elected officials.

Emerge Pennsylvania was started by State Representatives Tina Davis and Mary Jo Daley in 2016, and has since trained and recruited over 200 Democratic women to run for office. As of January 2023, 70 Emerge Pennsylvania graduates are currently serving in elected office across the Commonwealth, including five women in the PA State Senate, and five women in the PA State House.

“Emerge PA is committed to ensuring the New American Majority (Black, Brown and Indigenous women, women of color and unmarried, young and LGBTQ+ women) have the tools they need to run for elected office to ensure our elected bodies reflect our communities and our democracy,” said Rebecca McNichol, executive director of Emerge Pennsylvania. “This new class of women will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our communities from Erie to Philadelphia, from Scranton to Pittsburgh, and everywhere in between.”

The program commences in March and the cohort will meet one weekend a month for training on how to run successful campaigns for office at any level in the state. Members of the class will receive comprehensive training on campaign strategy, fundraising, public speaking and communications, field operations, and more. Trainers are experienced professionals with experience as campaign consultants, advisors and staff.
