March 8, 2021, Pennsylvania – Today, Emerge Pennsylvania announced its sixth cohort of women to participate in the organization’s intensive candidate training program which will include 23 women from across the Commonwealth.
Emerge Pennsylvania is the training program for Democratic women who want to run for elected office. During the ongoing public health crisis, Emerge Pennsylvania transitioned to a completely online training model, increasing the accessibility of the program and expanding the applicant pool to include more women from various backgrounds who are considering running for public office.
This program, which was co-founded by State Representatives Mary Jo Daley and Tina Davis, has trained over 150 women to run for office. Currently, over 30 Emerge Pennsylvania alumnae serve in elected office across the Commonwealth, including 10 women in the State Legislature.
“We are so proud that this is our most diverse class yet,” said Rep. Tina Davis. “The women in the class come from across the Commonwealth and from many different paths in life, and all share the commitment to making sure our elected leaders reflect all of Pennsylvania.”
“Our organization is looking to the future and expanding our programming to ensure that more Black, Brown and Indigenous women, women of color and unmarried, young and LGBTQ+ women are elected and appointed to office” said Emerge America President A’shanti F. Gholar when announced the organization’s commitment to changing the face of government.
“These women are already leaders in their communities and forces for change across Pennsylvania,” said Rep. Mary Jo Daley. “We look forward to working with them to hone their skills to run and win.”
The program commences in March and the cohort will meet virtually one weekend a month for training on how to run successful campaigns for office at any level in the state.
